Mark your calendars: TV networks and digital publishers are gearing up to make their annual pitches to media buyers and marketers in their heated fight to snag ad dollars for next season.
To stay up-to-date on where and when the biggest presentations and parties will take place, bookmark this continuously updated calendar (below). You can sort by media company or date.
The newest addition to the calendar is AT&T's ad unit Xandr, which will make its pitch to advertisers during the TV upfront week that's typically dedicated to major broadcast and cable networks.Xandr's presentation won't include any celebrities or showcase any programming, but will be "full of people talking about how data can be applied to TV and how they can extend their budgets into digital formats," Xandr CEO Brian Lesser says.
Xandr's breakfast will be the same day asWalt Disney hosts its first dog-and-pony show since acquiring 21st Century Fox assets. The event will take place on May 14 and include ABC,ESPN,Freeform,FX Networks and National Geographic.
As the Mouse House focuses on bringing all of these networks together,it also made the decision to pull out of the IAB's Digital Content NewFronts, which will kick off on April 29.Filling its spot on May 2 will be Target.
This will be the retail giant's first NewFront presentation, and it joins Walmart (another new addition),which will use the event to promote its Vudu streaming service as it gears up to introduce original programming.
Cable channels have already started making their presentations to the marketplace.Former President George W.Bush made a surprise appearance at A&E Networks' upfront dinner at Jazz at Lincoln Center on March 27 to promote the History Channel. The focus for A&E's dinner was on the programming—a refreshing departure from the last several years where networks have spent increasingly more time discussing data and targeting and less on the actual content.
Viacom is skipping the glitzy presentations in favor of private dinners with agencies and their clients.During those meetings, the home of MTV and Nickelodeon, among other youth-skewing networks, will be showcasinghow recent acquisitions like AwesomenessTV and Pluto TV,can be an entry point for direct-to-consumer brands.
